Free Technology Academy

The Free Knowledge Institute (FKI) is a non-profit organisation that fosters the free exchange of knowledge in all areas of society. Inspired by the Free Software movement, the FKI promotes freedom of use, modification, copying and distribution of knowledge in four different but highly related fields: education, technology, culture and science.

Oprichtingsvergadering Free Technology Academy

Oprichtingsvergadering Free Technology AcademyOp donderdag 5 en vrijdag 6 februari 2009 vindt de eerste bestuursvergadering van de Free Technology Academy plaats in vergadercentrum LEX op de campus van de Open Universiteit Nederland in Heerlen. Dit initiatief, mede gesteund door het Leven Lang Leren programma van de Europese Unie, beoogt een internationaal onderwijsprogramma op het gebied van vrije software (ook wel open source genoemd) en open standaarden.

Programma
Het programma zal bestaan uit zeven Engelstalige modules, waarvan het materiaal als Open Educational Resource wordt gepubliceerd. Aan het eind van dit kalenderjaar zullen de eerste cursussen in dit programma gevolgd kunnen worden.

OKCon 2009

OKCon is the annual Open Knowledge Conference organised by our fellow organisation The Open Knowledge Foundation. OKCon is back for its fourth installment bringing together individuals and groups from across the open knowledge spectrum for a day of discussions and workshops.

NOiV Congress 2009

Following the tradition of the former programme OSOSS (Open Source as Part of Software Strategy), on Thursday March 5th 2009 the first congress of the Programme NOiV will be held. The congress is organised in collaboration with ECP.nl (Platform for eNetherlands) and held in Utrecht, Netherlands. One of the keynote speakers will be Tristan Nitot, President of Mozilla Europe.

ODF Congress

On Thursday, January 29, the NOiV (programme Netherlands Open in Connection) will organise, in collaboration with Adobe, OpenDoc Society and Media Plaza, a workshop on the OpenDocument Format in Maarssen, Netherlands. Reason for the ODF-Congress is the obligation for Dutch goverments to support the OpenDocument Standard from January 1st, 2009 onwards, following the action plan for the use of Open Standards and Open Source Software in the public and semi-public sector.

2008-2009 Petition to stop software patents in Europe

We have signed the Stop Software Patents .eu petition to support their view on serious restrains current software patent legislations cause. "The patent system is misused to restrain competition for the economical benefit of a few but fails to promote innovation. A software market environment is better off with no patents on software at all.
